Sometimes I don’t realize who matters until they’re gone. Sometimes I take for granted when people tell me that they’ll see me soon. Death gives me a new outlook on life, somewhat ironically. I didn’t get a chance to say a proper good-bye. I didn’t realize how much someone’s friendship, no matter how brief or casual, meant. But I said good bye in a poem.

It’s been a while, but I wrote something new.
I like the way it hurts.

I once spent an afternoon with a friend looking up lyrics with our names in it. Then we went from our names to the names of the people that we knew. My name rhymes with too much stuff, I discovered, and I occasionally get asked if my parents were awesome and named me after the song Michelle by The Beatles (the answer is no).
Michelle, my belle.
Sont des mots qui vont très bien ensemble,
Très bien ensemble.
“Michelle” by The Beatles
I know the song, off by heart, having listened to it so many times before. Plus, last week when I had a biology lab, my professor called my name to hand back an assignment and started singing it. It’s the only way she can remember who I am (from The Beatles song). Good thing to be known by? Not so sure.

Because the phrase love at first sight can be so wrapped up in that one line. I’m not sure what attracts me to that line – I don’t believe in love at first sight. I believe that you can think that oh yes, someone is attractive or you wouldn’t touch that other person with a ten foot pole. But the line is nice, and here are some the lyrics that go around it.
When you can fall for chains of silver, you can fall for chains of gold,
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold.
You promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin, yeah!
Now you just say, “Oh Romeo? Yeah, you know I used to have a scene with him”
“Romeo and Juliet” by Dire Straits

So I may have eff’d up WordPress a little… and my backup from January 1st wasn’t recent enough to include a few pages and settings, so I’m working on fixing that right now. I also lost my eloquently written first post too. Ugh. =(
