Believe
Can you make me believe in happy beginnings
Just before everything goes wrong and
Just before the real story starts?
Can you make me believe in once upon a time
With talking mice and chirping birds
And pumpkins that turn into horse-drawn carriages?
Can you make me believe in magic
That turns a girl in rags and covered in soot
Into a princess who once lost a glass slipper?
Can you make me believe in dancing
When the moon is full and there’s nothing
To be afraid of, least of all a poisoned apple?
Can you make me believe in a forest
Full of dancing animals that get along
And the seven dwarves that are always cheerful?
Can you make me believe in music
Even when I’ve lost my voice and you dream
Of mermaids and sirens and someone who rescued you?
Can you make me believe in friends
That will always be there for me
Even when you’re not and I’m floundering alone?
Can you make me believe in waking up
After the spells have worn off and I awaken
To see you waiting for me to breathe?
Can you make me believe in running through
A forest, a field, a river
Through just about anything to get to you?
Can you make me believe in pixie dust
And a land where no one ever grows up
And the best thing is that I can fly?
Can you make me believe in the big bad wolf
And a little girl in a red cape in the woods
And the hunter that comes along to save her?
Can you make me believe in love at first sight
And the promises that two strangers can hold
For each other when they realize who they’ve found?
And can you make me believe in happily ever afters
Where the prince finds his princess and everything
Just everything is finally the way it’s supposed to be?
