Sunshine
I tried writing you a letter while I watched you sleep,
Your head against the pillow, I pushed your hair back
And gave you a kiss before I pulled myself out of bed.
I picked up a pen and a notebook and tried to write something,
Something honest, something true, something real
Just a letter to you to tell you how I feel,
But words failed me.
I wondered what you were thinking about with your eyes closed,
If you were dreaming of me like I do of you
And if it made you happy to know that I care about you.
I tried writing you a letter to convey how I feel
And I stayed up watching you sleep before I finally went back to bed,
I slipped my arms around you and rested my head against the pillow
And I close my eyes to drift off to sleep.
I woke up before you did and I just watched you sleep a little longer,
And the rays of sunshine come through the window and fall across your face
There was a smile on your face like you had a secret to tell,
Asleep even with the sunshine across your body like it belongs there.
I picked up a pen and a notebook and tried to write something,
Something honest, something true, something real
And I wrote something to show how I feel.
