Wishes
I used to wish on
Lucky pennies and wishing wells
Hoping that luck would smile
And grant me a wish or two.
But I learned that
Scrap metal and water
Are even less lucky than a
Rabbit’s foot on a ring.
And I used to believe
That true love existed,
And I used to wish for a
Fairy tale ending
With a happily-ever-after.
Until my dreams shattered
And I learned
That I’m a little old for
Wishes and fairy tale endings.
